Meeting times and days . . .
Live in Georgetown?
Come to our meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month
Georgetown Community Center
John and Lisa Riddendorf of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania (near Harrisburg, the state capital) have been coming to Five Islands for years. They've stayed at various locations. They just love it here. Lisa and John are overjoyed! We will be mailing the art quilt on Monday and they can't wait to get it!
"Call of the Loon"
In February of this year, our island community lost one of the most renowned artists in our country. Dahlov Ipcar passed away on February 10th just ten months shy of her 100th Birthday. The Georgetown Working League Quilters had developed an idea for our yearly project, featuring the beautiful loons we see dotted along Maine's lakes and ocean coves. Dahlov's fanciful paintings and illustrated children's books have delighted her followers for decades, and in particular the GWL ladies were smitten with her depiction of a loon. Late last fall one of our members, who was particularly close to Dahlov, asked for permission to use "her loon" in our work. The loons are hand embroidered by fiber artist Ellen Grant.
